A message from Ngāti Tama:
Kei ngā iwi o Te Tauihu, tēnā koutou,
As you may be aware, we are expecting significant rainfall between now and midday tomorrow. An Orange Rain Warning is currently in place for Nelson/Tasman. We are receiving regular updates from MetService and our hydrologists, who advise that the heaviest rainfall is expected up until 12pm tomorrow, Friday 4 April.
This forecast will inevitably impact tomorrow’s (Friday) events, particularly the Pōwhiri and Golf Tournament. There may also be some impact on some of the events on Saturday.
Below is a breakdown of what is impacted and key information to share with your whānau:
PŌWHIRI GOING AHEAD
At this stage, the working committee has decided that the pōwhiri will proceed as planned at10.00am, but please be prepared forvery wet conditions. We have set up marquees outside theWhare Tupuna to accommodate overflow and have a sound system in place for whānau seated outdoors.
GOLF TOURNAMENT - CANCELLED
Due to the expected heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, the team has made the difficult decision to cancel the golf tournament tomorrow.Ka aroha e te whānau, this was not a decision taken lightly. We explored the possibility of rescheduling for a later tee-off for Friday, but extensive rain will fall until later Friday arvo.
Saturday afternoon was also explored for a shot-gun tee-off, but as the course has its club day, a late afternoon shotgun start would clash with other players and interfere with the 4:30 - 5:00pm Prizegiving and Hākari at Saxton. Alternatively, you are most welcome to book a tee time on Saturday afternoon if you feel like playing 9 holes.
SATURDAY EVENTS
Given the extent of the rainfall on Saxton fields, we have been advised to expect notifications that may impact on the use of the some of the fields too (League 9s and Touch).
At this stage, Saturday's events are still going ahead. We are working directly with the Facilities Managers and Council for updates. We anticipate changes to the draws, locations, and fields and will inform you as soon as possible.
PARKING AT SAXTON
Car parking on grass will be unavailable, so please carpool if you can and park in designated car parking on concrete or on the street. Please remember to come through Saxton Road entrances, not Main Road Stoke.
TRAVEL ADVISORY
If you are planning to travel, please exercise caution and stay updated with the latest weather warnings. Your safety is our priority, so if you do not feel comfortable traveling in these conditions, please delay your journey until the weather has cleared.
