Modern living at Kaweka
We’re thrilled to announce that all Māori are now eligible to apply for a 2 bedroom apartment in our Kaweka housing development.
Located on New North Road, Kaweka offers a range of affordable and modern living options for whānau. This development, which honours its Māori heritage, features 44 newly built units, including primarily two-bedroom apartments, along with a limited number of studio and one-bedroom units currently available.
The name “Kaweka,” gifted by a Marutuahu kaumatua, reflects the hill ridge nearby and the close connection to the maunga Ōwairaka. The design of Kaweka incorporates volcanic rock and a color palette that nods to the rich cultural history of the area.
The development is the result of a partnership between Hāpai Housing and Ka Uruora, working together to provide affordable rental outcomes for whānau through the Ka Uruora rental rebate program. With a mix of market and rebate units, 30 of the units are offered at significant discounts—ranging from 10% to 30% off market rent based on household income.
Kaweka is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from Mt Albert Train Station, which links directly to the Britomart Train Station and is also well-serviced by various bus routes. This makes Kaweka an ideal location for whānau looking to live in the heart of the village, with easy access to transportation and local amenities.
