Annual Impact Report released
The 2023 Kotahitanga mō te Taiao Annual Impact Report shares the results of a considerable amount of work put in during 2023 by our Co-chairs, staff, partners and project leads, as we continue our journey to deliver on our strategy at scale.
The report shares an outline of the proposed Operational Plan for the region, as well as success stories from our 15 Strategy Aligned Projects.
We also profile each of the 17 Partners - iwi, local and central Government - which have now signed the MOU with Kotahitanga mō te Taiao.

Te Hoiere Project has a new website and some great stories to tell. Check out their latest newsletter here for stories about the community action making a difference in this important catchment.
Tasman District Council's Waimea Inlet Enhancement project has started saltmarsh restoration trials, planting saltmarsh species at the mouth of Borck Creek. The outcomes of these trial plantings will inform the restoration planned for this area once Borck Creek is widened and becomes part of a connected Delta system. One Billion Trees put more than 40,000 plants in the ground this winter and spring around the Waimea Estuary. It is now planning planting for next winter.
Restoring and Protecting Flora, now in its final year of funding, has in total delivered weed control to more than 17,000ha. It planted 14,630 native plants over the Winter 2023 planting season across sites in Buller, Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough to help prevent weeds from re-establishing.
Pest Free Onetahua has made good progress on developing its detailed operational plan and is carrying out an extensive pest monitoring programme. A recent highlight was a site visit with Manawhenua ki Mohua and the PFO team, sharing stories and discovering Onetahua's significant cultural and ecological sites.
Project Mahitahi's focus is moving into plant after-care and ongoing weed surveillance and control at existing sites, as well as continued pest control across three trapping projects. Crack willow regrowth is being monitored and treated after a programme of eradication from the Maitai dam downstream.
Te Tauihu Iwi Implementing Te Mana o te Wai Project is working with policy staff from Marlborough District, Nelson City and Tasman District to implement the Te Mana o Te Wai provisions in the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 in new regional freshwater plans.
Wakapuaka Whangamoa is continuing to control vine and other weed infestations, with more than 45ha of weed control completed since work began in 2021. Read the latest news from this project here.
