Overview


The Mātauranga Iwi Leaders Group (MILG) is seeking expressions of interest for three key technician roles that will support our vision,'tiria ko te mātauranga, hei tikitiki mō te mahunga; educational systems that encourage self-determination.’ These positions are critical to providing strategic advice, developing culturally responsive policy solutions, and working alongside Iwi narratives that share how we can make a positive impact.

Available Positions


We are currently seeking expressions of interest for:

MILG Technician; Projects (Remote)

  • Coordinate and manage projects pursuant to deadlines
  • Support the production of high-quality policy analysis, research, and advice
  • Develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders

MILG Technician; Policy Analyst (Remote)

  • Analyse education policies through a Mātauranga Māori len
  • Develop policy proposals integrating te ao Māori perspective
  • Lead research combining Indigenous knowledge with contemporary
    frameworks

MILG Technician; Communications and Storytelling (Remote)

  • Lead strategic communications to amplify MILG's vision and impact
  • Create engaging content across multiple formats
  • Transform complex policy and research into accessible narratives
  • Facilitate storytelling workshops to capture iwi educational aspirations

Senior Hair Stylist Tauwhiro

About the role

Tauwhiro is a new salon that will provide exceptional cut and colour services to whānau in Marlborough. We’re different from other salons; in addition to our standard salon services, we provide free or low-cost services to people that need them.

About us

Hāpai Ake is a new Kaupapa Māori Alternative Education programme in Wairau (Marlborough). Our philosophy and programme is based on the highly successful Oho Mauri model born in Rāhui Pōkeka (Huntly) and will be based in Te Whare Tokomaru very near to the Blenheim CBD. 

About the role

The Educator and Content Lead will foster, promote and enhance the overall well-being and academic success of all rangatahi in Hāpai Ake and to provide meaningful and comprehensive support services to aid in their mental, emotional, and social well-being while also supporting their learning and academic journey.

This role will engage with and provide leadership to rangatahi by:

  • establishing positive and interactive relationships with each rangatahi. 
  • monitoring the progress of each rangatahi. 
  • promoting inclusion, equality and diversity in all aspects of the Programme.
  • creating a safe and supportive learning environment that encourages participation, self-expression, and personal growth.. 
  • attending and contributing to team meetings, ILP’s and impact reports and presentation

This role will lead learning and content development by:

  • preparing lesson plans and ensuring clear objectives are in place for all Programme workshops, one-off projects and work experience opportunities.
  • adapting teaching methods and resource materials to meet the interests and learning styles of all rangatahi. 
  • integrating a variety of learning methodologies and technologies to enhance rangatahi engagement and learning outcomes. 
  • collaborating with rangatahi, their whānau, teachers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement intervention plans where needed. 
  • conducting assessments to identify rangatahi needs and progress targets to develop personalised support. 
  • maintaining accurate records and documentation of rangatahi interactions and progress. 
  • participating in professional development opportunities and collaborating with other educators and professionals in the field

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Empathy and an understanding of the impacts of societal issues on the ability of learners
  • An understanding of the evolution of education for Māori in Aotearoa
  • Experience and knowledge of mental health issues, rangatahi development, and academic support strategies 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of rangatahi, whānau, and stakeholders 
  • Ability to pass vetting process and drug test 
  • Full NZ Drivers Licence 
  • Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Youth Development, or a related field 
  • Proven experience in educational programme development and delivery, particularly with at-risk youth or in similar settings 
  • Proficiency in using technology and digital tools for educational purposes 
  • Commitment to cultural competency and understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi)

Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship for Māori accounting students

Applications are now open for the BDO Sir Henare Ngata Scholarship for Māori accounting students heading into their final or penultimate year of study.

The goal is to equip recipients with the knowledge, professional network and guidance to succeed and thrive in their careers, to become trusted advisers of the future.  

Three national scholarships are offered, consisting of:

  • Financial assistance for study-related costs $7,500
  • Internship at one of our BDO New Zealand member firms
  • Registration for the annual Ngā Kaitatau Māori o Aotearoa hui and related costs up to $1,500
  • Mentorship with BDO for the final year of study (March to November)

Marlborough Lines Tertiary Scholarship for Māori

Nau mai, e te whānau! Tonoa mai tēnei karahipi mā te Māori!

Open to all mana whenua, including Ngāi Tahu, both school leavers and adult learners can apply.

In 2024, the scholarship will be administered by Te Rūnanga a Rangitāne o Wairau.


Te Rau Puawai

Te Rau Puawai aims to increase professionalism in the Māori mental health workforce. It supports Massey University students who are studying towards a qualification in this field.

Ko tā Te Rau Puawai he whakawhanake i te hunga e mahi ana i te rāngai hauora hinengaro Māori. Ka tautokohia ngā tauira e whai ana i ngā tohu e hāngai ana ki te hauora hinengaro Māori.

Te Rau Puawai is one of the most successful academic support programmes in the country. Over the last 20 years it has helped more than 400 health workers into the Māori mental health workforce.

The programme is a partnership between Health Workforce NZ and Massey University. It gives bursaries and learning support to students who want to begin or complete a Massey University qualification in the areas of:

  • psychology
  • nursing
  • rehabilitation
  • social work
  • social policy
  • Māori health
  • Māori studies
  • health science.

This scholarship is open year-round and you are welcome to apply any time. Your application will be considered in the next available intake.

The Tiaki Wai Fund is like the teina to our Wai Ora Fund. Its purpose is to promote and advance Māori interests in freshwater fisheries.

Projects can be awarded up to $7,500 with applications open all year until the fund is fully allocated.
